List of Items to Take to the Field

Suggest reading through field procedures and Field Safety Team documentation to start pulling this list together. List everything no matter how obvious or trivial it seems.

Equipment for measuring plots

- Chalk (for making plot edges on roads and marking trees as they are measured in plots with lots of trees)

- Flags for tying a tree and marking the plot circle

· Street map to locate plot

· Clinometer

· Diameter tape

· Clipboard; sample plot data sheets, pens/pencils (or digital recorders-PDA)

· 50/100 ft tape measure

· Species ID guide (Fieldbook)

· Notebook, clippers, and zip-lock bags to hold unidentified tree samples (twigs for Dr. Braham to identify)

· Calculator

· Compass

· Camera (if taking pictures of plot and for photos of unknown species)



Safety items

- First aid kit george 31 Jan - have purchase one per team

- Safety vest and hardhat

- UFAT t-shirt

- Cell phone
- Contact phone numbers (Keto, Hess, etc)

- Water

- Flashlight


Personal items

- Map of Raleigh (to help with directions to sample plot)

- Proper clothing for weather (heat, rain, snow, etc.)

- Copy of spreadsheet

- Copy of letter to household

- Doorknob bags (for letter to property owners so they know we were there)
